Rocket League have announced their next World Championship. It is to be held in Madrid at the Palacio Vistalegre, from the 13th to the 15th December.
The game is hugely popular, and has won many awards including Game of the Year in 2015. It combines football and driving in a multiplayer game. Players choose from a huge variety of flying vehicles which include rocket boosters, and attempt to score aerial goals and also stop their opponents from scoring into their own goal. Players can also choose from various stadiums, such as an underwater venue.
This will be the 8th Rocket League World Championship, and the prize fund stands at more than 1 million US Dollars. It is also the 3rd RLCS to be held in Europe, most recently the Season 5 championship was held in London in June 2018.
The Season 7 final took place in June of this year in Newark, New Jersey. 12 teams made it to this final, and after some amazing plays from player Scrub Killa, Team Renault Vitality were victorious, winning total prize money of 200,000 USD.
This year, Pysonix have expanded the RLRS (the lower tier Rival Series) which has given more teams the chance to compete for a place in the final. Play in the RLCS season 8 regular season begins on the 5th October.
Rocket League will also be one of two games which will be featured in the Intel World Open, the other game being Street Fighter V. This is a new competition created by the ESL in partnership with the International Olympic Committee. The 500,000 dollar event will hold it’s finals in July 2020 in Tokyo ahead of the Summer Olympics.
